Good news for fellow fans of downtown Indianapolis, bikers, outdoors enthusiasts, and lovers of all things awesome: The White River Greenway has grown by two miles. That means more biking, more jogging, and more enjoying of our fair city and everything it has to offer. Man oh man, we can’t wait for spring!

WFYI has the scoop. An excerpt is below.

indianaTrailsThe $3 million dollar project connects White River State Park to Raymond Street on the south side.

It’s designed to encourage more people to bike through the city which Parks Director John Williams says is an important piece of Indianapolis’ growth.

“Access to a major greenway trail is a key component to economic development and job growth in this neighborhood,” he said.  “The addition of this trail can be an economic catalyst for the surrounding neighborhood.”

The League of American Bicyclists presented Indy Mayor Greg Ballard with its annual leadership award.

President Andy Clarke says creating paths such as the greenway extension is what millennials are asking for from communities.

MJ is a songwriter and local musician, freelance writer, baseball enthusiast, lover of travel, and a terrible mechanic. When MJ graduated from Central Michigan University with a degree in Creative Writing, he was immediately barraged with 'questions' of "What are you gonna do, teach?" He is determined to not get a job teaching. So far, so good. With music, MJ's traveled the country touring on his songs. Having spent time in places from Chicago to Seattle, LA to New Orleans, and Nashville to NYC, he is convinced that Detroit and its 'burbs have the the highest concentration of 'native' songwriting talent anywhere. Eat it, New York. You too, LA. MJ started writing for the Urbane Life in the summer of 2011. He also writes for a handful of other websites as well as an immigration lawyer. He used to work in a publishing house. He's glad he's out.
